Well-directed mindless comedies were once considered stress busters. But now with every Tom Dick and Harry trying their hands on it, has made it a nuisance. One such is Ganesh Acharya’s new flick Money Hai Toh Honey Hai.
Money Hai Toh Honey directed by Ganesh of Swami fame stars Govinda, Upen Patel, Aftab Shivdasani, Manoj Bajpai, Celina Jaitely and Hansika Motwani in the lead roles.
Without beating around the bush let me take you to the story…
The story is simple. Six people who are waiting for their lucky star to shine and shower some good will on them get an SMS saying they are the owners of a 1000 crore company. The excitement of their unseen dream come true is taken to a toss when their lawyer reveals that there is a loan of 1200 crore on the company which has to re-paid by them else be under house arrest.

With Swami, director Ganesh looked promising, but with Money Hai Toh Honey Hai all hopes pinned on him by the distributors seems to have been crushed to bits. The first half of the movie is spent in drawing connections between the characters and telling the tale of the losers with a song that features the director himself. In the second half they are willed a 1000 crore company with 1200 crore debt with a bank by a maniac. I agree that the story line is not riveting and it need not be but it neither has anything in it to keep us entertained. Instead of sticking on to one core issue, the plot wanders into a number of meaningless subplots and makes it even more tedious to sit through. Money Hai Toh Honey Hai disappoints in all aspects. Forget some side splitting comedy; the movie hardly has anything in to for us to even flex our facial muscle.
Money Hai Toh Honey Hai with a capable star cast could have done better if not for the appalling script. Music is good but emerges in places which make no sense and reason. Dialogues are okay while cinematography is good.
Performance wise it’s just another rat race. Noone excels although every one is trying hard to make their presence felt. It’s just the same cup of tea yet again for Govinda, a role that we have seen him play n number of times. This time around he looked out of place because of the age factor. Unfortunately Manoj Bajpai is reduced to doing clownery. Aftab is good but his role curbs him from excelling. Upen Patel is entertaining. Celina Jaitely is expressionless. Hansika Moti.. err Motwani is average.
Overall, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai is yet another nonsensical comedy in its worst form. If you don’t value your money then give it a watch.
